The Laodicean Chronicles

A couple of interesting items caught my eye this week, both gleaned from other watchman blogs. From Ingrid Schlueter’s Slice of Laodicea we have this story from Tallahassee Florida

Churches draw in new faces with car shows

Derlen Correa couldn't help but peek under the hood of each show-piece ride that lined the grassy lawn.

The size of one muscle car's engine prompted a nod of approval. Correa then circled around a royal blue 1972 Chevy Nova and admired its shimmering enamel. The Bainbridge, Ga., resident repeated that routine until he'd seen the rest of what the 25 cars had to offer.

He and his wife, Maria Rodriquez, just happened to see the rows of cars as they were driving from the flea market Sunday afternoon. They were surprised to see they were pulling up to a parking lot at New Life United Methodist Church on  South Monroe Street
A couple of Tallahassee churches have decided that car show evangelism is the way to draw people unto Christ. Check out these comments from the ‘Pastor’ (pastorette?)

Car shows on church grounds aren't common attractions, but the idea was to attract people interested in cars and encourage them to visit a church if they don't ordinarily go, said Pastor Barbara Awoniyi of New Life. Across town, members of Thomasville Road Baptist Church hosted a car show hoping to do the same thing.

"There really needs to be an effort to bring the church outside the four walls," Awoniyi said

Oh yes, by all means let’s get outside the four walls. Hey let’s get really radical and go all the way out to the parking lot! Yeah – that’s the ticket, we’re really evangelizing now!

This is the way the Laodicean church evangelizes the lost. They use the things of the world to attract worldly people to their worldly assembly. Apparently these people use a different version of the bible than the one I have. I think they use the RLV or Revised Laodicean Version

Love not  the world, neither {and all}  the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1John 2:15 R L V

Here’s what one of the blind sheep said of this outreach

Richard Hinkle started the outreach hoping to make churches more inviting.

"People will come see the cars and then they might come to church," said Hinkle, who lives in Quincy. "You build relationships through people and that's what builds a church."

Gee I always thought it was the Lord who built the church.

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Mat 16:18

Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Acts 2:47

Since these churches long ago abandoned the true gospel of Jesus Christ, they do not exhibit the power of God. Since they do not have the true power of God available they must use other means to draw men unto them. They have a form of Godliness but they deny the power thereof.

I suppose that kind of thing worked with those ignorant first century heathens. We’re much more sophisticated today. We don’t need any of that “rise up and walk” stuff. No, today I suppose a 66 G.T.O. with the 389 tri-power motor will work just as well.

And from our friend Melvin Jones over at Pulpit-Pimps we see the latest merchandising scheme from “the next Billy Graham” T. D. Jakes.

Jakes is pimping his 2006 edition of Mega-Fest™. His website has a page seeking sponsors here > Sponsorship Overview

Notice if you will that Jakes has already lined up a couple of major sponsors for this event in Coca-Cola™ and Kraft™ and he’s looking for more. If there is any question about how Jakes see’s God’s people it should be put to rest with these comments to potential sponsors;

This event blends two separately successful nationally branded events (Woman, Thou Art Loosed and Man Power) that began in 1992 under the highly regarded T.D. Jakes brand. MegaFest also includes two youth components: MegaLand for children ages 5-12, and the MegaYouth Experience component for ages 13-21. T.D. Jakes branded-events have set attendance and economic records around the country including breaking the single event attendance record of 90,000 at the Georgia Dome. Previous T.D. Jakes branded events in Atlanta have grossed over $500,000 million for the local economy over the past three-years. The Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau stated that the amount was significantly more than the past three Atlanta-based Super Bowl events that totaled just $250 million.

How about that! T.D Jakes™ is bigger than the Super Bowl™! And what is he selling here? He’s selling you my dear friend. He is offering up a large group of God’s people to corporate sponsors in exchange for money. He’s telling potential sponsors that he, T.D. Jakes™, can deliver huge numbers of people with lots of money to spend on the sponsors products.

And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. 2Peter 2:3

Can anyone seriously make the case that this scripture does not apply to Jakes™? He is literally making merchandise of God’s people. You are the merchandise being sold to the highest bidder! I am also quite certain that even though he has corporate sponsors footing the bill for this thing he will not miss an opportunity to take up offerings from the sheep. In fact if any of you attend, please take note and let us know how may times Jakes™ or one of his cronies pass the buckets.

Here is the perfect picture of religious Babylon teaming up with corporate economic Babylon to trade in the souls of men. This is one of the reasons God’s judgment is coming upon Babylon. It is foretold in Revelation.

Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls………… And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil,………. and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. Rev 18:10-13

T.D. Jakes™ is one of the great merchants of Babylon just as surely as is Bill Gates or Donald Trump. Gates trades in computer technology. Trump trades in real estate. Jakes™ trades in the bodies and souls of men.

There is but one response for a true servant of God

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. Rev 18:4

That’s my take, tell me what you think at The Blog
